Earlier last week a new strain in ransomware started to spread across Europe. This particular strain has been dubbed ‘Bad Rabbit’ and has been spreading via ‘drive-by-attacks’ disguised as an Adobe Flash update or installer. If infected, all system data is encrypted and held hostage until the user agrees to pay the proposed ransom through BitCoin or other hard to trace online payment methods. In this particular case once the Flash Installer is clicked it starts locking the infected computer, the ransom note and payment page then demands a figure and gives the user a 40 hour deadline for payments to be made by.
