‘Bad Rabbit’ Ransomware strikes again

Earlier last week a new strain in ransomware started to spread across Europe.  This particular strain has been dubbed ‘Bad Rabbit.’ Bad Rabbit has been spreading via ‘drive-by-attacks’ disguised as an Adobe Flash update or installer. If infected, all system data is encrypted. It’s then held hostage until the user agrees to pay the proposed ransom through BitCoin or other hard to trace online payment methods.

In this particular case once the Flash Installer is clicked  it starts locking the infected computer. The ransom note and payment page then demands a figure and gives the user a 40 hour deadline for payments to be made by.

As it stands ‘Bad Rabbit’ hasn’t yet spread further than the reported incidents in Ukraine and Russia. Our best advice as it stands however is to:

Inform all your staff of the attack and to be aware and cautious when using their computers.

Ignore all Adobe Flash installer prompts.

Ensure your important data is backed up securely in the event of an attack.
