Never Miss A Meeting With New Outlook for Windows

Have you ever missed an important meeting because Outlook wasn’t open? You’re not alone—it’s a common frustration! That’s why the new Microsoft Outlook for Windows is introducing a game-changing feature:

Calendar Notifications, Even When Outlook is Closed

With this update, you’ll receive desktop notifications for Calendar events, even if Outlook isn’t running. It’s a small change that can make a big difference in keeping you organised and on track.

When Is It Rolling Out?

  • Targeted Release: Late November 2024 to late December 2024.
  • General Availability: Early January 2025 to early February 2025.

How It Works

Once this feature is available, enabling it is quick and simple. After setup, you’ll get Calendar alerts by default—even if Outlook isn’t open.

Setup Guide: Enable Calendar Notifications in a Few Easy Steps

Turn on notifications in Outlook:

  1. Open the New Outlook. Click the gear icon in the top-right corner for Settings.
  2. Search for “Notifications” and expand the section. Enable Send notifications when Outlook is closed.
  3. Under Notify me about, expand Calendar, select Desktop, and click Save.

Adjust Windows 11 notification settings:

  1. Go to System > Notifications, find Outlook (new), and enable Show notification banners.

Allow Outlook to run in the background:

  1. In Windows Settings, search for Installed apps, find Outlook (new), and open Advanced options.
  2. Set Let this app run in the background to Always.

That’s it! Once you’ve completed these steps, you’ll automatically receive Calendar notifications—even if Outlook isn’t running.

What About Admins?

No action is required for administrators. This feature will roll out automatically. However, it’s worth sharing this update with your team so everyone can take advantage of the new functionality.

Why This Update Matters

For anyone who values organisation, this feature is a game-changer. It’s a subtle yet impactful improvement that ensures you stay informed and never miss a meeting—whether Outlook is open or not.

Keep an eye out for this update and enjoy a smoother, more connected experience with Microsoft Outlook!
