As the temperature rises over the coming months, it’s important to keep yourself safe from the sun and heat.
However, it’s also important to take care of your computer equipment during this season, as even a few degrees of nice weather can impact your device’s functionality and performance.
Although ‘British summer’ is nothing compared to our European and Transatlantic friends, we’re set to have a fair few high 20 and 30c days coming up.
So, here are a few tips on how to keep your devices cool this summer.
Whether you’re working from an office, a cafe or client site, it’s important to ensure that there’s adequate ventilation and airflow around you.
For places with air conditioning, this shouldn’t be a problem. But for spaces where the air may become hot and ‘stuffy’, consider taking a portable/desk fan to improve circulation.
It’s also important to keep your device’s vents and cooling fans clear and dust-free, and blockages and obstructions can prevent your device from cooling properly.
Try to avoid placing your devices on heat-retaining surfaces, such as carpets and wooden tables.
When it gets hot, your device needs as much space as possible to dissipate heat effectively.
We would advise using cooling pads or elevated platforms (such as a laptop dock) to help keep your device’s cooling fans and vents free from obstruction.
When left in the sunlight for too long, your device’s internal temperature can rise rapidly, increasing the risk of overheating and internal damage.
If you work in a bright office with lots of windows and skylights, try to work in cooler and shaded areas where your device is out of reach of direct sunlight.
Protecting your device from the heat is super important for maintaining its performance and ensuring it functions properly. By following these simple tips, you’ll be able to safeguard your IT equipment from the hot weather and prolong its lifespan.
