With women making up just 24 percent of the UK workforce in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math careers we’re super proud to have a team where over a quarter of our staff are female. What better way to celebrate International Women’s day on the 8th of March than meeting our girl bosses at Systemagic and hearing their thoughts on working in the tech industry.
As Marketing Manager it’s my job to keep our current clients and potential new clients engaged in the content we’re sharing. I also look after our SEO clients in helping them gain maximum exposure via search engines.
I definitely fell into my role at Systemagic, I had just finished my degree in creative Advertising and was looking to extend my skillset however I hadn’t thought much about the sector I’d end up in. When the job at Systemagic came about everything slot into place! Tech is such a broad industry so I’m grateful to have landed on my feet!
Seeing the journey in which the brand as a whole has been on since I joined the business 5 years ago is what I’m most proud of. I also completed my postgraduate degree in Digital Marketing during 2019 whilst working full time which really pushed me out of my comfort zone.
Travelling is my passion and something that’s most definitely been put on pause throughout the past year. I’m really into fitness and cooking and I’m slowly becoming more obsessed with home interiors now I’m spending a lot more time at home.
I think a lot has changed in recent years, when I joined the business back in 2014 I was the only female, now it’s much more common for women to challenge the norm and take on roles which may have been saturated by men before. I would say if you have the passion and drive then really explore all avenues, research all options when it comes to career possibilities and don’t be discouraged. You got this.
I am Systemagic’s Customer Experience Manager so I am involved in all things customer and operations related. I look after new clients to ensure that they have a smooth on-boarding process and keep everyone organised. I also look after our existing customers, ensuring that helpdesk tickets are dealt with swiftly and competently, providing our team with support where necessary. I also manage the planning of projects which is something we’re seeing more and more of, with many of our clients opting to move away from traditional physical servers and instead moving to the cloud.
No! absolutely not. I did a degree in Psychology but didn’t really know where my calling was. Being a child of the 90’s I’ve seen how tech has developed and changed over a relatively short period of time and have always been in awe of it. When I think back to the massive computer we had as kids which we thought was the most amazing thing as it had ‘Microsoft Encarta’ on it (Google it!) and look at the tech we have at our finger tips now, its amazing to have been a part of that revolution. I’ve been in the tech industry now for 8 years and will never look back. Technology will only continue to grow and develop over time and it’s exciting to see what will happen in the next 30 years!
The way that our team work so hard to ensure our customers have the best experience possible, makes me so proud every day. They are always exploring and discovering emerging technologies to ensure we provide the most up to date service. To me, they go above and beyond and it’s brilliant to be working with such motivated individuals.
In my spare time I love to head down to Cornwall with my partner and Golden Retriever, Casper. For me there’s nothing better than sea, sand and the warm sun on your face. It really gives me the opportunity to unwind and appreciate the simple things in life! I do always have one eye on my phone though.. just in case!
Technology will only continue to develop and will play a huge part in our lives forever. Although our industry is traditionally heavily male orientated, we’re seeing more Women get involved who bring many positive attributes with them. As our team proves, technology doesn’t have to be geeky or nerdy. If you have a love of tech and you’re willing and motivated to learn, a deeply fulfilling career in IT is waiting for you!
Happy International Women’s Day!
